HARTFORD CITY — A special season for Madison-Grant and a season of growth at Eastbrook each came to a premature and disappointing end in the opening round of Class 2A Sectional 39 Tuesday night at Blackford High School.
The game plan and goal for the Marion Giants entering Tuesday’s opening game of Class 4A Sectional 7 against No. 7 Lafayette Jeff was centered around preventing Bronchos’ standout Brooks Barnhizer from a repeat performance of the one he had in the Jan. 22 regular-season meeting.
GAS CITY – It was clear that Oak Hill boys’ basketball coach Kevin Renbarger had developed a plan to limit Tai McClung and Landen Swanner from a December repeat performance.

Oak Hill senior Dalton Scheffer had his record-breaking swim season come to an end during the preliminary round of the IHSAA state swimming and diving championships Friday in Indianapolis.
Juice and grit have been part of the fabric of Ethan Whaley’s Indiana Wesleyan women’s basketball program since he became head coach before the 2017-18 season.

Jalen Blackmon’s torrid finish to his Marion High School basketball career reached another milestone Friday night in Fort Wayne. However, another furious finish by the Giants came up just short against the Snider Panthers.
The Taylor Trojans have been one of the top 3-point shooting women’s basketball teams in the NAIA over the past few seasons. But Friday night in Luckey Arena, it was the 20th-ranked Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats that put on a dazzling display of long-distance shooting.
Call it “Silly Saturday,” potentially a sequel to “Freaky Friday,” the movie originally released in 1976 and re-made a couple times since.

If not for the immediate task at hand, it would be easy for Oak Hill boys basketball coach Kevin Renbarger to imagine how the 2020-21 basketball season might have played out differently if his Golden Eagles had been at full strength from day one.

Jalen Blackmon added to his historical legacy Wednesday night, unfortunately for the Marion Giants, however, another sluggish first half led to a disappointing ending in their final regular-season contest in Bill Green Arena.
There was a brief moment of panic for Oak Hill senior Dalton Scheffer and his coach Kendrick Vester at the beginning of the 50-meter freestyle finals in the Hamilton Southeastern Sectional on Saturday.
For the most part this season, the Indiana Wesleyan men’s basketball team had cruised to victories.

A big second quarter propelled the NAIA’s 20th-ranked Indiana Wesleyan women’s basketball team used to a 74-65 win over Goshen in a Crossroads League tournament quarterfinal game Tuesday night in Luckey Arena.
Mistakes are usually amplified in a close basketball game, and often the team that makes the fewest errors earns the win.

The youthful Eastbrook girls basketball team proved itself to be the top in Grant County during the 2020-21 season and the Panthers were rewarded handsomely with All-Central Indiana Conference selections.
Oak Hill senior Dalton Scheffer had a pair of strong individual swims at the Hamilton Southeastern Sectional preliminaries and is in position to potentially qualify for a state-finals berth in both events.

The NAIA 16th-ranked Indiana Wesleyan women’s basketball closed the first quarter with a 19-4 run and rode the wave of momentum to a 87-58 win over Grant County and Crossroads League rival Taylor in Luckey Arena Wednesday night.
Achievement in any endeavor comes only one way. It has to be earned.
The Marion Giants followed the script of their defensive game plan with some success Wednesday night against Class 2A No. 1 Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian.
