Some readers took issue with our opinion editorial coverage during Donald Trump’s presidency, crying fake news or making claims that we were being too critical of his words, actions and behavior.

The fact of the matter is that a newspaper’s job is to hold powerful people accountable and openly criticize public officials. Reporters should be watchdogs for the public, not lap dogs. It’s a waste of valuable space to spend too much time patting elected officials on the back for doing their jobs, especially when so many promote policies which do little to fix the things that truly affect our daily lives.
