A Marion man remains hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle Saturday evening, according to Marion Police Department.

Craig Rench, 54, of Marion, was walking near a CVS Pharmacy on the 1100 block of South Washington Street when he was struck by a silver 2000 Dodge minivan heading north on Washington Street at approximately 6:44 p.m., according to MPD Deputy Chief Stephen Dorsey.

Dorsey said a witness told police she witnessed the van strike Rench and continue driving without stopping to check on him. Dorsey also said a license plate number was noted and reported to police. MPD is investigating the lead on the plates.

According to MPD incident reports and eyewitness statements, the vehicle did not appear to make any attempt to slow down or stop prior to hitting Rench.

“Mr. Rench was flown to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis via Lifeline helicopter for head and lower extremity trauma,” Dorsey said.

St. Vincent Hospital representatives confirmed Rench is still hospitalized in the Trauma Intensive Care Unit at their 86th Street location but were unable to provide any further update as to the victim’s condition.
