Man survives overdose

Zachary Lawson, 25, overdosed on heroin on Friday inside a residence on West Jeffras Avenue. Lawson was discovered by his father who called 911. Lt. James Loftin first arrived on scene and noticed Lawson’s faint heartbeat, and began performing sternum rubs and chest compressions. Loftin said Lawson was somewhat responsive and came to after administering a dose of narcan. Lawson was transported to Marion General Hospital. Due to Lawson’s drug use in the presence of an infant, a case was filed with Department of Child Services for analysis.

Man admits to attacking parents with hammer

FORT WAYNE (AP) — A Fort Wayne man has pleaded guilty to charges that he attacked his parents with a hammer that left his father dead and mother seriously injured.

The (Fort Wayne) Journal Gazette reports that 51-year-old Scott L. Ruse pleaded guilty Friday in Allen Superior Court to murder and attempted murder after prosecutors agreed to dismiss other charges. Ruse faces up to 65 years in prison for the murder charge and up to 40 years for attempted murder when he returns to court for sentencing next month.
