Marion welcomes first baby of year

BY Brian Powers - bpowers@chronicle-tribune.com

Marion General Hospital delivered its first baby of 2018 Tuesday morning.

Cooper Patrick Jaymes Sprinkle was born at 8:14 a.m. to Kelcie and Heath Sprinkle, of Marion.

Cooper was delivered via scheduled cesarean section, weighing in at six pounds, 11.4 ounces. Both mother and baby are happy and healthy.

Sprinkle said that Cooper’s middle names have significance in that Patrick is in reference to Patricia Harrison-- Kelcie’s aunt, who is also the unit shift manager in the Marion General Labor and Delivery unit. Harrison has been an employee of the hospital since 1979, and helped deliver Kelcie, Cooper and the eldest Sprinkle child, Kinslie, who is now one and a half years old.

Along with Kelcie’s aunt delivering both her and her children, her mother, Jessie Muncey, also works at Marion General as a pediatric unit shift leader. Baby Cooper’s other middle name, Jaymes, is in reference to both his paternal grandfather and his maternal great-grandfather.

Sprinkle stated that, in honor of having the first baby of the new year, Marion General gave their family “a lot of baby presents, like an elephant-themed calendar for his first year and some stuffed animals and outfits.”

Terri Couse, Communications Specialist for Marion General stated that the New Year’s baby gift bag is an annual bag of gifts the hospital gives to the family of the first baby born every year in Marion.
