Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe W. Johnson Jr.

Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe W. Johnson Jr. celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary.

They were married April 24th, 1949 at a private family wedding.

Their honeymoon was spent touring Florida, Tennessee, North Carolina and Georgia.

Roscoe held many careers through the years. He was an early morning paperboy for Mr. Wineburg while working as a disk jockey at WMRI. He was a salesman of the first color TVs at Overpeck TV, manager of the Indiana Theater and spent 29 years at Anaconda Wire and Cable Co. He also served as National Director for the Indiana Jaycees.

He is a World War II veteran of 15 months.

Mrs. Johnson went to work in 1949 as a hello girl for Indiana Bell. She held that position 25 years before advancing to Engineering. She worked in Indianapolis six years where she established a training school for technical clerks teaching it for six years.

She worked 37 years before retiring.

Her retirement years have been filled with travel, writing poetry (six of which are published) and handmade embroidered baby blankets.

They have four grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and one great great.

Passionate travelers, they have traveled extensively to such places as the Panama Canal, Morocco, Africa, Alaska, all the Caribbean Islands and nine different cruises.

Mr. Johnson says, “Our life has been a constant joy.”
