Delores J. Hale June 9, 1929 - April 8, 2019

After repeating 3rd grade for 31 years, Delores J. Hale, age 89, finally earned her eternal glory in Heaven on Monday, April 8, 2019, at Suite Living in Marion.

Born in Ida Grove, Iowa, on June 9, 1929, Delores was the daughter of William E. and Goldie Mae (Allen) Julian. She graduated from Sweetser High School in 1947 and received her Bachelor’s degree from Butler University and Master’s degree from Ball State University. On December 23, 1954, she married her loving husband, George L. Hale, and he preceded her in death on September 19, 1991.

Delores was a lifelong learner and found great joy in her career as a teacher. She enjoyed it so much that she spent 31 years as a 3rd grade teacher with Oak Hill United Schools in Converse! She had also taught at Roseburg Elementary and Horace Mann schools. She taught a countless number of students over the course of her career and, no doubt, made a lasting impression on their lives.

Delores was a member of Mississinewa 1812, Grant County Teacher’s Association, Retired Teacher’s Association, Senior Center Board of Directors, and Sweetser UMC (for 85 years). She was also member and past president of the Department Club and Grant County Democratic, as well as President of Marion City Employees Federal Credit Union.

She is survived by her sister, Joyce Audrey (Dr. Wm. David) Shephard, FL; many step-children, step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and good friend and caretaker, Patricia (Irvin) Behm, Converse.

Also preceding her in death were her brother, William E. Julian, Jr., and three sisters, Velma McCormick, Marie Tribbett, and Mildred Hoffman.

The family will receive visitors from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, April 15, 2019, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.

Immediately following the time of visitation, a funeral service to celebrate Delores’ life will begin at 1 p.m. with Rev. Jeff Herron officiating. Burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff at Family LifeCare Hospice and Suite Living for their wonderful care and compassion towards Delores.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Oak Hill High School Scholarship Fund.
