Video of MPD officer kicking suspect goes viral

The Marion Police Department is taking some heat on Facebook after a 10-second video surfaced on the social media site which showed a police officer delivering two kicks to the back of a white male under arrest.

The video, posted Saturday by Facebook user Nathan Smith, garnered nearly 100,000 views by Monday morning. In the video, suspect Julian Peagle, 27, is lying on the ground while Officer Kyle Griffith holds his legs in the air. As Peagle moved around on the ground, Officer Billy Cole delivered two kicks into the back area of Paegle, followed by Cole backing off the suspect.

According to MPD Capt. Stephen Dorsey, the two kicks were a defensive response to Paegle who kicked at the two officers after he was tackled after fleeing from the police. Paegle was arrested on warrants and additionally charged with resisting law enforcement with injury to another and battery resulting in injury on a law enforcement officer.
