Vermilion first-team academic all-state

Marion’s Ellie Vermilion was one of 37 girls selected to the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association’s academic all-state first team earlier this week.

Student-athletes are nominated by their coaches and must meet criteria that include a 3.5 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale, a class rank in the upper 25 percent of one’s class, an SAT score of 1,100 (on the reading and math sections) or an ACT score of 24.

Vermilion was the only Grant County athlete to receive first-team distinction.

Eastbrook’s Kylie Standfest, Mississinewa’s Tyler Bartel along with Oak Hill’s Jenessa Hasty, Andrea and Marissa Wilk all received academic all-state honorable mention for the girls.

Oak Hill’s Landry Ozmun was also honorable mention and the lone county boy to receive academic recognition.
