Grant County Tennis Association Jr. team

The Grant County Community Tennis Association is currently accepting applications for its 18th local spring season of Junior Team Tennis, a program directed by the United States Tennis Association.

Junior Team Tennis is open to any youth tennis player who can keep a rally going. Player evaluations will be on April 1-2 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Indiana Wesleyan University. All players must attend one evaluation, which will last approximately 45 minutes.

Matches begin the week of April 15, and the season concludes May 30.

Registration is $40 and $30 for additional members of the same family. To receive an application, contact Doug Porter at 618-4216. Applications are due by March 30.

Indiana Swish basketball tourney

The Indiana Swish is looking for teams to compete in a series of basketball tournaments to be held April 12-14 at the Boys and Girls Club of Grant County.

There is room for eight teams in each of four divisions: 3rd-4th grade, 5th-6th grade, 7th grade and 8th grade. 

Each team is guaranteed four games, three in pool play and a then a single-elimination tourney held on Sunday, April 14.

Cost is $250 and a multi-team discount is available.

Marion girls basketball open gym

Marion girls basketball coach Lawrence Jordan and the Marion High School coaching staff will be having open gym for 5th thru 8th grade girls interested in developing their basketball skills. Workouts are on Tuesdays and Thursdays at McCulloch Jr. high Gym from 4:15-5:45 p.m.

The mission this spring is to build a girls feeder program here in Marion and get younger girls and parents interested in the future of the Marion Lady Giant Basketball program.

The biggest mission is to get them the proper training, developing their ball skills and shooting, building team camaraderie and playing games.

PAL Club baseball/softball signups

The Marion PAL Club currently is taking applications for its upcoming baseball/softball/tee-ball leagues through March 25.

Note that the cost is $80 and the leagues are for boys ages four through nine and girls ages four through 14.

Applicants must submit their name, phone number, birth date and shirt size, and may be asked to participate in a ticket raffle fundraiser. Call the PAL Club at 668-4422 to register.
