Happenings at MPL

Library Hours: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Museum closes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 5:30 p.m. The Library and Museum are now open on Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. The Library and Museum is open on Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The Library and Museum will be open to the public from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Come visit the museum: On the main floor, there is a case of Barbie dolls and a case with books by Kin Hubbard who published several books about “Abe Martin” that was a comic strip published from 1904-1930 in the Indianapolis News. The theme of most of the strips was Brown County. There are also cases in the lobby with a collection of banks, and also a case with a space shuttle launch center with figures of the astronauts.

Preschool Tales. Mondays, March 11 and 18 at 10:30 a.m. This program features stories, songs and activities for preschoolers, ages 3 – 6 years. Children’s Activity Room. Please sign up.

Sensory Tales. Tuesdays, March 12 and 19, and Wednesdays, March 13 and 20 at 10:30 a.m. This hands-on program encourages creative play for preschoolers ages 3 – 6 years. Children’s Activity Room. Please sign up.

Let’s Knit and Crochet. Thursdays at 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Forrest Room on the Museum. Let’s Knit and Crochet is open to adults. All skill levels are welcome. The fee for beginners is $15 to cover the cost of materials for the first project. Beginners must register at Reference Services the Monday before starting. Registration is not necessary for others.

Wee Tales. Fridays, March 15 and 22 at 10:30 a.m. Children’s Activity Room. This interactive program is packed with books, movement, and music. For infants – 3 years. Please sign up.

Family, Food and Fun. Wednesday, March 13 at 4:30 p.m. Children’s Activity Room. Join us for family fun activities. Brittney Shrout from Marion Animal Care and Control will answer questions about what type of pet might be best for your family and how younger family members can help with pet care. We will make a cat toy and enjoy a special snack. Call for more details and to sign up. 668-2900, ext. 1105.

Barbara Wilson Book Discussion. Wednesday, March 13 at 5:30 p.m. in the Israel Conference Room. We will be discussing “The Circus in Winter” by Cathy Day. For more information, call Mary Leffler at 668-2900, ext. 1130.

Gene day: What Do My DNA Test Results Mean! Thursday, March 14 at 6 p.m. Meeting Room B. Presented by Sara Allen from Allen County Public Library.

Otakus: Friday, March 15 at 6 p.m. Meeting Room B. Are you a teen grade 7 – 12? Join us for an afternoon of gaming (video and board) as well as free drinks and snacks. Bring one of your own games or play one of ours! Bring friends or make new ones.

Grant County Fiber Arts Guild: Saturday, March 15 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Forrest Room of the museum. Open to anyone with an interest in fiber arts. Must have tools and at least beginning skills. Call Sue Bratton, 765-668-2900, ext. 1145 for further information.

STEAM Stations: Saturday, March 16 at 3 p.m. Children’s Activity Room. Families are invited to explore hands-on STEAM activities. Sign up in Children’s/Youth Services or by calling 765-668-2900, ext. 1105.

Candidate Forum: Thursday, March 21 at 6 p.m. This is a forum for those mayoral candidates who will be in the May primary election.

The Connector Display Case features the DAR: The Reference Art Display on the second floor features art from St. Paul Catholic School. Carey Services will have a display in the Reference area during the month of March which is Disability Awareness Month.
