Samia J. Shriner

Samia J. Shriner, 67, Fairmount, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019, surrounded by her family. She was born in Marion to the late Samuel J. and Joyce A. (Leavitt) King. She married Lloyd “Wayne” Shriner on Nov. 1, 1997.

She retired from a 40-year career in nursing in 2016, where she dedicated her life to helping others. Samia was a faithful member of Tree of Life Ministries in Marion, where she taught the 3-5-year-old class for over 20 years. She was known as the church grandma. She enjoyed spending time with her family and church family, working puzzles and watching Hallmark movies.

She is survived by her loving spouse of 21 years, Wayne Shriner; daughters, Jeni (Stephen) Tarter, Shelly Starkey (Kelly Derry); sons, David (Amy) Shriner, Layne (Nikole) Shriner, Jason (Tongsung) Shriner; sisters, Patricia (Kenny) Kelly, Jennifer (Byron) George, Priscilla (Marc) Schultz, Tammy Harms; brothers, Darnell (Paula) King, Patrick Carroll, Sam King, Jr.; 22 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel J. King; Orville ‘Gene’ and Joyce Ann Carroll; brothers, Rayford King, Randall King and Michael Carroll; sisters, Dixie Hubbard and Tonya Cowgill; special aunt, June Leavitt.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019, at 1 p.m. at Tree of Life Ministries, 2701 W. Second St., Marion, Indiana, with the Rev. Charles Moore officiating.
