Man robbed at gunpoint

BY Carolyn Muyskens - cmuyskens@chronicle-tribune.com

A 49-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint Thursday night, according to Deputy Chief Stephen Dorsey of the Marion Police Department.

The man told police he was checking an old mailbox at Marion Green Apartments, 1402 S. Maple St., where he used to live, when a man came up behind him.

According to the victim's account, the attacker knocked him to the ground and pointed “a short barrelled black revolver” at him, demanding money.

The victim handed over $40 in cash.

But the man wanted more, according to the victim's account, and when the victim said he didn't have any more money, he was hit with the attacker's weapon.

“The subject then struck him in the top of his head with the butt of the revolver, causing a ¾ inch gash in the top of his head,” Dorsey said.

The suspect is described as a black male about 6 feet 1 inch tall weighing approximately 240 pounds and dressed in all black, including a black mask. The suspect fled northwest on foot, according to the victim.

Dorsey said the victim refused medical attention for his head injury.

The deputy chief asked that anyone with information about the incident call the Marion Police Department at 765-662-9981 or contact Crime Stoppers at 765-662-8477.
