Man arrested for check fraud

A Marion man arrested Monday is accused of attempting to steal $10,000 from family members by forging checks. According to court filings, Mark Greer, 49, took a checkbook from his sister and wrote himself two checks totaling over $10,000. Greer established a new bank account in June 2018, according to the probable cause affidavit, and attempted to deposit the checks in the account. A check for $9,575 was declined as unauthorized. Greer is also accused of writing checks for several hundred dollars to Lowe’s and another check for under one hundred dollars to Friendly Market for which he is accused of forging his sister’s signature. Greer is charged with theft, fraud and four counts of forgery and is being held in the Grant County Jail on a $1,005 bond.

Jonesboro Police Dept. implements drop box

The Jonesboro Police Department has a drop box for unwanted medication and sharps. Sharps are a form of medical waste which are objects used to puncture or lacerate skin, such as needles, razors and scalpels. The drop box is located on the side of the police department building (next to the police entrance) and is available 24 hours a day.
