Happenings at MPL

Library Hours: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Museum closes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 5:30 p.m. The Library and Museum are now open on Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. From Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend, the Library and Museum will be closed on Sundays. The Library and Museum will open on Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 9.

Let’s Knit and Crochet. Thursdays at 4 p.m. Forrest Room of the Marion Public Library Museum. Let’s Knit and Crochet is open to adults. All skill levels are welcome. The fee for beginners is $15 to cover the cost of materials for the first project. Beginners must register at Reference Services the Monday before starting. Registration is not necessary for others.

Preschool Tales. Mondays, Sept. 10, 17 and 24. 10:30 a.m. This program features stories, songs, and activities for preschoolers ages 3 – 6 years. Sign up required. Call 668-2900, ext. 1105 to register.

Sensory Tales. Tuesdays, Sept. 11, 18 and 25. 10:30 a.m. This hands-on program encourages creative play for preschoolers ages 3 – 6 years. Children’s Activity Room. Sign up required. Call 1105 to register.

Books, Bites and Beyond. Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 10 a.m. or 4:30 p.m. Children’s Activity Room. Students in grades 5 – 8 can pick up a copy of the “One and Only Ivan” to read before we meet on Sept. 12. Ami Brainerd will lead us in discussion and activities. Snack provided. This event is limited to 10 families per session. Sign up and pick up your copy of the book in Children/Youth Services.

Barb Wilson Book Discussion. Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 5:30 p.m. Israel Conference Room. We will be discussing “The Thirteenth Tale” by Diane Setterfield.

Art, Journaling and Beyond. Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 5 p.m. Meeting Room A. Learn how to create a place for art, goals, gratitude, organization, etc. Sign up in Reference, $5 fee; please bring your own journal or notebook.

Wee Tales. Fridays, Sept. 14, 21 and 28 at 10:30 a.m. Children’s Activity Room. This interactive program is packed with books, movement, and music for infants – 3 years. Please register by calling 668-2900, ext. 1105.

Grant County Fiber Arts Guild. Saturday, Sept. 15 from 1 to 3 p.m. Forrest Room. Open to anyone with an interest in fiber arts. Must have tools and at least beginning skills. Call Sue Bratton, 765-668-2900, ext. 1145 for further information.

STEAM Stations. Saturday, Sept. 15 at 3 p.m. Children’s/Youth Services. Families are invited to explore hands-on STEAM activities. Sign up in Children’s/Youth Services or by calling 765-668-2900, ext. 1105.

MPL Board meeting. Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 6 p.m. This is a public hearing on the 2019 budget.

Read to the Dogs. Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 5:30 p.m. Children’s/Youth Services. Children may choose a book and read to a therapy dog. Registration is encouraged.

Talk Like a Pirate Day! Wednesday, Sept. 19 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Children’s Department. Come and celebrate with lots of pirate activities.

A Visit with Mary Shelley. Thursday, Sept. 20 at 6 p.m. Meeting Room B. Join us as Adrienne Provenzano presents her one-woman show. Learn about Shelley’s life, how it influenced her art, her life as a 19th century literary woman and more.

Lego Club. Saturday, Sept. 22 at 11 a.m. and Monday, Sept. 24 at 4 p.m. Meeting Room B. Build your own Lego creation to put on display. For children ages 4 years and up. Call for more information or to sign up.

Basket Class. Saturday, Sept. 22 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Meeting Room B. Visit Children’s/Youth Services to look at the basket choices. Shelley Graves will teach you how to make a basket. Sign up and payment due on or before Wednesday, Sept. 12. Bring a snack to share on the day of the class.

Punch and Painting. Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 5 p.m. Israel Conference Room. Local artist Sara Pohlman will teach oil painting. Sign up at Reference required. Limited to seven painters. $15 fee includes all materials.

Daughters of the American Revolution. Tuesday, Sept. 25 and Thursday, Sept. 27 from 2 to 5 p.m. Indiana Room. Members of the Grant County DAR will help you research your Revolutionary War soldiers for both personal enjoyment and to join the DAR.

Otakus. Friday, Sept. 28 at 6 p.m. Meeting Room B. Are you a teen grade 7 – 12 and like anime and manga? Join us for this month’s meeting and hang out with other teens.

Pokemon Club. Saturday, Sept. 29 at 2 p.m. Children’s Activity Room. You want to be the very best? Join the club to play or learn how. For Pokemon trainers in grades 2 – 6. Bring your own deck or use one of ours.

Write your story with Bekah Shafer. Your story matters! Learn the process of writing the stories that are important to you and your family with Bekah Shaffer. This five-series workshop will meet the first Saturday of the month beginning June 2 at 10 a.m. Meeting Room B, Marion Public Library. One session is left, Oct. 6. Each workshop is $10. Please register at Reference Services.

The Connector Display Case features the Library’s Knitting and Crochet group. In September, Glenn Welch will have a display in the Connector.
