Police: School zone driving reminders

According to Marion Police Department Deputy Chief Stephen Dorsey, as school began Thursday at Marion Community Schools, MPD will be “monitoring" school zones.

“When entering a school zone, be sure to slow down and obey all traffic laws,” Dorsey said. The speed limit in school zones is 20 miles per hour. Drivers should also stop for school buses dropping off or picking up kids and should not pass other vehicles in school zones.

Dorsey suggested drivers pay attention to school zone signs and be extra cautious of children in those areas. “Be aware of and watch out for children near schools, bus stops, sidewalks, in the streets, in school parking lots, etc,” Dorsey said.
