Police: House shot while kids were inside

A house on the 3600 block of South Nebraska Street was shot four times Thursday afternoon while the family was inside.

A 41-year-old woman reported the shots fired at 4:21 p.m. Thursday.

Four bullets struck the house and one traveled through the wall and lodged in the couch in the living room. Two young kids were in the living room at the time.

Police recovered a projectile and some other firearm evidence, according to Capt. Robin Young of the Marion Police Department.

There were no witnesses, but Young said MPD has several leads and the investigation is ongoing.

Police: Car shot on Felton Street

At 12:34 p.m., Thursday, a man reported that his maroon 2007 Cadillac had been shot three times on the 3700 block of Felton Street.

Witnesses told police that a vehicle had driven by and someone had fired at the car out of the vehicle’s window.

The Cadillac was shot in the driver’s door, the passenger’s door and the trunk. Police don’t believe anything else nearby was hit in the incident.

Police recovered several casings from the scene, and have several leads.

This is an ongoing investigation.

Marion school board meeting cancelled

The Marion Community Schools Board of School Trustees meeting for July 10 has been cancelled. The next school board meeting is scheduled for July 24 at 7 p.m. The school board is expected to appoint two new members following the resignation of Cathy Moritz and Greg Kitts last month.
