Man found in dryer

BY Kaitlin Gebby - kgebby@chronicle-tribune.com

A tip to Grant County Crime Stoppers helped police find a wanted man inside a dryer at a Marion residence.

Joseph Floriana Jr., 36, last known address 2801 S. Stone Road Lot 48, of Marion, was wanted on several charges of theft, failure to appear and corrupt business influence. He was featured as the Crime of the Week by Crime Stoppers, an email that Detective Kyle Beal, of the Grant County Sheriff’s Department, sends out every Monday to the community.

As a result of the release, Marion Police were notified of Floriana’s whereabouts and located him at 3702 S. Houck St. Monday night.

Police located a woman at the residence, who said she and Floriana had a child together but she hadn’t seen him for a few weeks, according to Dep. Chief Stephen Dorsey.

She gave officers permission to search the house. Upon searching, officers found Floriana inside a dryer in the basement of the home.

He was being held at the Grant County Jail on a $1,610 bond. Beal said on top of the charges of theft, Floriana acquired the charge of corrupt business influence likely by promising to do a job with money paid upfront and never returning.

Floriana’s arrest marks another wanted criminal caught due to information put out by Crime Stoppers. Since January, five arrests have been made as a result of tips to Crime Stoppers.

Beal said the arrests are the result of continued collaboration between community members and law enforcement.

“As long as people care about their neighborhood, we’ll keep taking bad guys off the streets,” Beal said.
