Marion Parks and Rec softball

The Marion Parks and Recreation department is currently taking registrations for teams for its upcoming co-ed and men’s slow pitch softball leagues.

The leagues will feature a 14-game regular season followed by a double-elimination tournament (subject to change depending on the number of teams). The season will begin the week of May 14 with games to be played Monday through Thursday beginning at 6 p.m. each evening.

Cost to enter a team is $475 and registration can be done from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. until May 4 at the Marion Parks and Recreation Department, 301 S. Brason St.

Teams also must submit $50 forfeit fee at registration, paid separately, which covers the first forfeit, if necessary. Each additional forfeit would be a $25 fine to be paid before the next scheduled game. If a team incurs no forfeits, the fee will be refunded.

A complete roster - maximum 20 players - including player signatures, all fees and a Zero Tolenrence form, must be submitted at time of registration. Incomplete rosters will not be accepted and players with false information will be expelled from the league.

Players must be 16-years or older by May 14 to be eligible.

Players may play in both the co-ed and men’s league, but a player may not be on two different teams in either league.

Teams may make additions to their rosters until June 29. Adding a player must be done at the ball diamond in front of the softball commissioner.

Diamonds can be reserved for one-hour practices up to five days in advance beginning on April 30 by calling the Marion Parks and Recreation department at 662-9931.

Rain outs will be made up on the first available day and time following the regular season.
