Jonesboro woman killed in crash Sunday

BY Kaitlin Gebby - kgebby@chronicle-tribune.com

A Jonesboro woman was killed in a head-on collision while driving through Gas City on Sunday.

Marti Wamsley, 34, of Jonesboro, was driving a 2015 Dodge Challenger eastbound near the 800 block of Main Street in Gas City, when her car crossed the center line and collided with a semi-tractor hauling a box trailer for Walmart in Marion. The semi-tractor driver Christopher Lewis, 34, of Gas City, was not injured.

Wamsley was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Indiana State Police. The reason why she drifted into the oncoming lane is unknown and under investigation.

According to Cap. Ed Beaty, of the Grant County Sheriff’s Department, a crash of that nature is “highly unusual” in Gas City.

“Of the 27 years I’ve served in this area, I can’t recall the last fatal crash in Gas City,” he said.
