Creech Farm’s Country Café and Bakery was awarded the very first CHARM Grant, by the Grant County Economic Growth Council Wednesday morning at Abbey Coffee Co.

The CHARM Grant is a $1,000 matching grant intended for highly visible community projects such as facade improvement and sidewalk repairs.

Owner of the bakery, Rachael Creech, said the money will be used for signage.

“It has come to our attention that our business has suffered due to lack of current signage,” Creech said in a Growth Council press release. “And we want to change our visibility to the downtown Marion area.”

Mayor Jess Alumbaugh was on hand to help present Creech the grant.

“I am thrilled to see The CHARM Grant bring very tangible impact to downtown spaces, not only in Marion but throughout the rest of Grant County,” he said according to a press release.

In the release, Creech said they have outgrown their current space but intend to stay in their building at 100 N. Washington St. due to its location in downtown Marion. An expansion is a possibility, Creech said. Other plans include cleaning up the hill that overlooks the Mississinewa River and installing a deck alongside the building.

The second cycle of The CHARM Grant will be awarded June 6, at the June BYOC² event, a Growth Council networking event that takes place the first Wednesday of the month from 7-9 a.m. at Abbey Coffee Co. The deadline is May 25. Applications can be found at: www.grantcounty.com/business/the-charm-grant.
