Ivy Tech welcomes donated acreage

Ivy Tech’s Marion campus held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday for their newly dedicated Brickley Land Laboratory.

The ceremony comes on the heels of a donation of 10 acres of land by Dr. Harry Brickley. The land is on Ind. 18, near Love’s Truck Stop and is slated to be used to provide hands-on experience to Ivy Tech’s agricultural programs.

Agriculture Program Chair Tom Daugherty said part of the land will be used as a corn research plot, as well as another section of the land being used for organic and sustainable resources.

“We’re excited for students to get outside of the building and get out there to get their hands on the lab,” Daugherty said. “Lots of people in the community have been donating to the program and the community has really shown up for this.”

Alex Huskey, Ivy Tech’s Chancellor, said he is not only excited about the donation, but for what it could mean for students in the agricultural programs.

“He’s (Brickley) very philanthropic and I think he wanted to donate land to a quality program, and this provides a good opportunity for our students to get some great hands-on experience,” Huskey said.
