Doctors appointed to evaluate Carmack

Doctors appointed to evaluate Carmack

Grant County Circuit Court Judge Mark E. Spitzer granted a motion for a competency evaluation for Amanda Carmack during a hearing Wednesday, according to court records. Doctors have now been appointed to examine Carmack as mandated by state law when a mental disease defense is being used.

Carmack faces charges of murder, neglect of a dependent, domestic battery and strangulation in relation to the death of 10-year-old Skylea Carmack of Gas City. Carmack’s attorneys filed a notice on Sept. 25 stating their intention to use the defense of mental disease or defect during her trial.

Officials find more fetal remains connected to late doctor

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Authorities say additional fetal remains have been found in Illinois stashed inside a car that belonged to a doctor who performed abortions in Indiana.

Indiana Attorney General Curtis Hill said in a news release that Dr. Ulrich Klopfer’s relatives and Will County Sheriff’s Office investigators found the new remains Wednesday.

The sheriff’s department said Wednesday that the newly discovered remains were found in the trunk of a car parked on a property in Dolton, a suburb south of Chicago.
