High school football

Giants ranked No. 1 by IFCA

Marion was voted No. 1 in Class 4A in the Indiana Football Coaches Association preseason poll released Monday. 

The Giants received 63 votes, (one first-place vote) to edge No. 2 Evansville Central (61, 3) for the top spot.

Mississinewa got one first-place vote and 31 votes overall to land at No. 9 in 4A.

Eastbrook received 78 votes to start the season ranked No. 2 in Class 2A. The Panthers are slotted behind only defending 2A champion Western Boone (97, 8).

Oak Hill football scrimmage changed

The Oak Hill football team’s preseason scrimmage scheduled to be at Taylor on Friday has been cancelled. Taylor won’t have enough players to field a team.

The Golden Eagles will now go to North Miami on Friday and scrimmage with the hosts and Culver starting at 7 p.m.

Madison-Grant wins 3-way match

The Argylls shot 193 to top Mississinewa (224) and Marion (Inc.) Friday at the Elks.

Allie Vetor fired a 44 to earn medalist and lead M-G. Kasey Cleaver added a 46 while Allie Hostetler shot 49 and Abbie Hostetler had 54. 

Anabella Pannell shot 49 to lead Mississinewa. Maggie LaBarr finished with 50, Peighten Allen had 58, Jayce White shot 67 and Alivia Rice had 71.

Maddie Endsley led the Giants with 51, Bayley Grieve shot 53 and Savanna Grieve had 66.
