Happenings at MPL

Library Hours: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Museum closes on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 5:30 p.m. and is open Tuesdays and Thursdays until 8 p.m. The Library and Museum is closed on Sundays through Labor Day weekend. The Library & Museum will be closed on Monday, Sept. 2 for Labor Day.

The Marion Public Library Museum: is collaborating with Dr. Kersten Priest, Dr. Robert Priest, and & their students to present a celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Weaver/Pettiford family reunions. The exhibit will open August 13 in the Museum. There will be a ribbon cutting and a reception on Saturday, Aug. 17 from 1 to 3 p.m.

Chair Yoga for Seniors: Next session began July 23. Tuesdays at 9:15 and 10:30 a.m. in the Forrest Room, 2nd floor, Carnegie Bldg. Class will be taught by a RYT200 teacher. Sign up at the Reference Desk, 668-2900, ext. 1126. Please call to see if there are still openings. Class size will be limited to 15. Classes meet July 23 through Aug. 20. All necessary supplies will be provided.

Let’s Knit & Crochet: Thursdays at 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Forrest Room on the Museum. Let’s Knit & Crochet is open to adults. All skill levels are welcome. The fee for beginners is $15 to cover the cost of materials for the 1st project. Beginners must register at Reference Services the Monday before starting. Registration is not necessary for others.

Lego Club: Saturday, Aug. 10 at 11 a.m. and Monday, Aug. 12 at 4 p.m. Meeting Room B. Build your own Lego creation to put on display. For children ages 4 years & up. Sign-up in Children’s/Youth Services or by calling 765-668-2900, ext. 1105.

Teen Gaming: Saturday, Aug. 10 at 2 p.m. Meeting Room B. For teens in grades 7 - 12. Join us for an afternoon of gaming (video and board), as well as free drinks and snacks. Bring one of your own games or play one of ours! Bring friends or make new ones.

Preschool Tales: Mondays, Aug. 12, 19 & 26 at 10:30 a.m. Children’s Activity Room. This program features stories, songs, and activities for preschoolers, ages 3- 6 years.

Friends of the Marion Public Library & Museum meeting: Monday, Aug. 12 at 5 p.m. Israel Conference Room. New and old Friends are welcome.

Read to the Dogs: Tuesday, Aug. 13 at 5:30 p.m. Children’s/Youth Services. Children may choose a book and read to a therapy dog. Registration encouraged.

Barb Wilson Book Discussion group: Wednesday, Aug. 14 at 5:30 p.m. Israel Conference Room. We will be discussing Bento Box in the Heartland by Linda Furiya. To obtain a copy of the book, please contact Reference/Adult Services on the second floor of the library.

Sensory Tales: Thursdays, Aug.15, 22, and 29 at 10:30 a.m. This hands-on program encourages creative play for preschoolers, ages 3 - 6 years.

Wee Tales: Friday, Aug. 16, 23, and 30 at 10:30 a.m. Children’s Activity Room. This interactive program is packed with books, movement, and music, for infants - 3 years.

Grant County Fiber Arts Guild: Saturday, Aug. 17 from 1 to 3 p.m. Forrest Room of the Museum. Open to anyone with an interest in fiber arts. Must have tools & at least beginning skills. Call Sue Bratton, 765-668-2900, ext. 1145 for further information.

MPL Board meeting: Tuesday, Aug. 20 at 6 p.m. Israel Conference Room.

Natural Wellness Class: Back to School Health. Tuesday, Aug. 20 at 6 p.m. Meeting Room A. Make this your best school year ever with tips from how to make meal time easier and healthier to how to boost your immune system and more! Sign-up required. $5 fee includes make & take of a hand sanitizer or roller ball blend. Sign-up by Tuesday, Aug. 13 to ensure enough supplies. Presented by Tammy Maddox and Mindy Manning.

Books, Bites & Beyond: Wednesday, Aug. 21 at 9:30 a.m. (grades 6-8) in Meeting Room A. Students in grades 6 - 8 can pick up a copy of Summer of the Monkeys to read before we meet on Aug. 21 at 9:30 a.m. Ami Brainerd will lead us in discussion & activities. Snack provided. This event is limited to 15 students per session. Sign-up required. Pick up your copy of the book in Children’s/Youth Services.

Game On: Wednesday, Aug. 21 from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Children’s/Youth Services. Come and get your game on! Play video games on our Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Wii or choose a board game from our collection. Snacks provided. For children in Kindergarten through 6th grade.

Creation Station: Saturday, Aug. 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Children’s/Youth Services.

Family, Food & Fun: Wednesday, Aug. 28 at 4:30 p.m. Children’s/Youth Services. Summer Reading might be over, but reading is always in season! Test your library knowledge with a scavenger hunt, create a chart to keep track of the books you’ll be reading during the school year, and enjoy some yummy alphabet snacks. Sign-up is required in Children’s/Youth Services or by calling 765-668-2900, ext. 1105.

Otakus: Friday, July 30 at 6 p.m. Are you a teen grade 7 - 12 and like anime and manga? Join us for this month’s meeting and hang out with other teens.

The Connector Display Case: features Nostalgia Items prepared by Debbie Kirkwood, library meeting room coordinator.

The second floor Reference area: will feature the Grant County Art Association member show from Aug.1 through Aug. 31.
