Marion man robbed at gunpoint

BY Samantha Oyler - soyler@chronicle-tribune.com

A man was robbed at gunpoint early Monday morning, according to police.

According to Capt. Stephen Dorsey of the Marion Police Department, 52-year-old Kent Smith was running “an illegal dice game” out of his garage on the 700 Block of West First Street.

Dorsey said the initial incident took place at about 12:10 a.m., but Smith did not call the police for about 15 minutes.

Dorsey said Smith reported that a regular to the gambling, a man known as “Tre,” grabbed a rifle from a shelf in the garage and pointed it at him.

Smith then reported another male, wearing a blue shirt, pulled out two handguns, according to Dorsey.

Dorsey said a third male was also involved but there is no description of the man.

Reports say the three men demanded a bag of money, which Smith gave to them.

Dorsey said the three men then left the garage and ran east, down through an alley between First and Second streets.
