Michael Broyles Mooney April 20, 1944 - May 9, 2019

Michael Broyles Mooney passed away on May 9, 2019 in San Diego, California. A devoted sports fan - especially for anything involving Notre Dame or Indiana University - Mike made his home in San Diego for the last four decades. He was 75.

Mike was born April 20, 1944 in Corpus Christi, Texas to John Kiley Mooney and

Bette Broyles Mooney, both natives of Marion, Indiana. Mike was the oldest of six children.

Mike graduated from Marion’s Bennett High School in 1962 and Notre Dame University in 1966. Commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army and served one tour of duty in Vietnam from August 1967-August 1968 as an artillery spotter pilot. He was an active member of the National Guard until the mid-1980s, achieving the rank of Major. Mike married Maribeth Faherty on April 15, 1967 and the couple had four children together.

Mike is survived by his four children, Matthew Mooney (Laura), Mark Mooney (Cissy), Marni Mooney Meunier (John) and Meghan Mooney Parys (Dustin). He is survived by two grandchildren, Annie Mooney and John Mooney. His third grandchild, Max Meunier, will arrive in July. He is also survived by all of his siblings, Tim Mooney (Diane), Dallas, Texas; Maureen Hamm, St. Cloud, Fla.; Jeff Mooney (Marie), Brown County, Ind.; Patricia Mooney, Indianapolis; and Nancy Horsman (Bill), Royal Palm Beach, Florida.

Memorial service will be Sept. 6, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Marion National Cemetery.
