John Edwin Stanley June 6, 1933 - May 29, 2019

John Edwin Stanley, 85, died on Wednesday, May 29, 2019, at the Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. He was born on June 6, 1933, in Grant County, IN, to John W. and Cora J. (Chenowith) Stanley.

John graduated from Van Buren High School in 1952 and married Helen L. Boxell on October 7, 1956. He worked 25 years for the Owens-Illinois Glass Co. in Gas City. He lived in Grant County for 80 years before moving to Franklin, OH, to be with family. He loved gardening, especially the rose bushes that he and Helen admired while sitting in the swing together.

The greatest thing that John left his family was a deep faith. A lifelong servant of Jesus Christ, John was a faithful churchgoer and financial supporter of the churches he and Helen attended. The last few years, he attended the Tytus Avenue First Church of God in Middletown, OH, where he impacted many with his friendly smile and welcoming handshake.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen L. (Boxell) Stanley; daughter, Deborah A. (Damon) Curtis; sister, Donna (Bill) Neal; grandchildren, John M. (Tristan) Miller, Brian M. (Amanda) Miller, Saran E. (Tim) Terrill, Hannah L. Curtis, Rachael L. Curtis, and MD Curtis; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his infant son, Daniel Dewayne; daughter, Paula Kay Miller; and sisters, Emma L. (Harold) Helm and Mary Imogene (Alpheus) Davis.

The family will receive visitors from 12 noon to 2 p.m. with John’s funeral service beginning at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2019, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN. John’s son-in-law, Pastor Damon Curtis, will be officiating with burial following at Park Cemetery in Fairmount.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Tytus Avenue First Church of God, 3304 Tytus Ave., Middletown, OH 45042.
