Van Buren man charged with child molesting

By Clay Winowiecki - cwinowiecki@chronicle-tribune.com

A Van Buren man is being held on a $100,000 bond after being accused of inappropriately touching a 9-year-old girl.

Investigators believe the man molested the girl multiple times over the approximately three-month period she lived in his care, according to documents filed in the case.

The suspect, Charles Michael Huston, 51, has been charged with two Level 1 felony counts of child molesting and two Level 4 felony counts of child molesting. The victim no longer lives with Huston.

The victim told forensic interviewer Stephanie Swain of First Light Child Advocacy Center of Grant County that Huston began touching her a few days after she moved into his household, according to court documents.

According to the affidavit, after one sexual assault in the living room, Huston told the victim to not tell anyone.

The victim stated she was going to tell Huston's wife, but Huston told her to keep quiet. The victim did not tell Huston's wife because she was afraid that his wife would not believe her and she would get in trouble.

Huston was being held in the Grant County Jail Friday.
