Man charged with child molesting

By Clay Winowiecki - cwinowiecki@chronicle-tribune.com

A 39-year-old Marion man was arrested Monday night on a warrant for four level one felony counts of molesting a child under the age of 14.

The girl, who is seven years old, told her mother that suspect Juan Gaberial Guerrero had been touching her over the past several months. The girl reported Guerrero to her mom after a lesson at her school taught children what to do in the case that they are touched inappropriately, according to MPD Detective Captain Robin Young.

“There’s been touching over a period of time,” Young said. “He had been touching her since before Christmas is what she told the officer who wrote the report.”

The girl’s mother reported the incident when she was told on April 18, Young added.

“As soon as the report was filed we got it back here and assigned it to an investigator and they filed it with the prosecutors office, then the prosecutor’s office requested his warrant,” Young said.

According to Young, arresting the suspect in less than a month is relatively quick work, considering detectives need to try and interview all parties involved before warrants can be issued.

The four reported instances of child abuse all occurred inside the mother’s home, with at least one instance taking place inside the girl’s bedroom, Young said.

The girl did not suffer any reported physical injuries during the assaults.

The Grant County Sheriff’s Department served the warrant.

Guerrero’s bond is set at $100,005 with his initial hearing set to take place today.
