Carey Services has been providing safe care and a place for disabled people to flourish in Grant County for decades and the agency is recognizing its own history at its annual Duck Race fundraiser in June.

"We have the 65th Anniversary Package this year," said Jim Allbaugh, president and CEO at Carey.

The deal delivers 65 rubber ducks cast on the waters of the Splash House for $275, a discount from the usual charge of $5 per duck.

Other packages include the Quack Pack — 6 ducks for $25; the Quackers’ Dozen, in honor of Carey Services’ mascot, Quackers — 12 ducks for $50; and the Flock — 25 ducks for $100.

The more ducks in the race, the greater the chances of winning.

Allbaugh says the fundraiser has grown in popularity since it started 13 years ago and the move to allow purchases online has increased participation.

The website is www.careyservices.com/duckrace and purchases can be made by credit card this year.

"We've already sold some online ducks," said April Scott, executive office and event coordinator for Carey.

Tickets for ducks can be bought online and also at Carey Services as well as from Carey employees. Cash, checks and credit cards are accepted.

"Last year we had some people out of state buying them," Scott said.

There are 2,500 ducks available for purchase and Allbaugh says he expects them to sell out.

Winning ducks will deliver cash prizes this year of $1,000, $500, $300, $200, and $100 to their respective ticket holders. Allbaugh also said that Carey Services is gathering prizes from contributing organizations and businesses throughout the area.

The event will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 22 at the Splash House in Marion. Ticket buyers need not be present to win.
