Kaye L. Blackwell June 6, 1951 - May 8, 2019

Kaye L. Blackwell, Fairmount, age 67, passed away in her home at 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2019. She was born in Greeneville, Tennessee, on June 6, 1951, and was the daughter of Furman and Bonnie (Bowens) Shelton. On September 22, 1989, she married Charles Blackwell, and he survives.

In 1997, she received her paralegal degree from IU. She worked in the Radiology and Dietary departments at Marion General Hospital before becoming owner/operator of Low Bob’s Discount Tobacco. Upon closing her store locations, she taught at Mississinewa Community Schools for several years. She had spent a great amount of time volunteering at Carey Services as well. Kaye was very smart and her great organizational abilities came in very handy throughout her life.

Kaye was actively involved with the Red Hat Ladies Society. She enjoyed traveling, canning, going to restaurants, shopping, dancing, listening to music, and working in her flower garden.

She is survived by her loving husband of nearly 30 years, Charles; daughter, Angie Phillips, Fairmount; grandchildren: Anthony, Christopher Jr., and Dusten Blackburn; great-grandchildren: Addison, Jakeston, Caylie Sue, and Ky’zar Blackburn; Julius Turner; nieces and nephews: Patty Hurley; Rachel Shelton; Lynn Shelton-Karrh; Mike Shelton-Karrh; Melissa, Debbie, and Sonny Hampton; Rodney “Bo” Lynch Jr.; Bonnie Taft; and Lonnie, Sandy, and Randy Watson; and special friends: Janice Brown; Sue Beaman; Darlene and Brandon Behr; and Heidi Eccles.

Preceding her in death were her parents; son, Doug Fultz; niece, Tammy Hampton; sisters, Dema Hampton, Shirley Haire, and June Woodward; and brother, Dean Shelton.

The family will receive visitors from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, May 13, 2019, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.

A funeral service to celebrate Kaye’s life will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at the funeral home. Chaplain Ron Forsythe will be officiating with burial following at Park Cemetery.
