Ewing charges split

Attorneys agreed last week to split drug charges from animal fighting charges for an Upland man accused of training dogs for dog fighting contests. John Ewing’s trial is set to proceed next Tuesday, May 14, but Ewing will only be tried for the drug-related charges at that time. The dog fighting-related charges will be moved to a later date.

Ewing’s drug-related charges include dealing and maintaining a common nuisance. The animal fighting-related charges include purchasing or possessing an animal for use in an animal fighting contest, possession of animal fighting paraphernalia and cruelty to an animal.
