MARION — Surrounded by his family, Virgil F. Eckelbarger, 89, died Monday, March 4, 2013 in Golden Living Center, Muncie. He was born in Converse, Indiana on December 21, 1923 to the late Burvia and Ruth (Malott) Eckelbarger. He was a graduate of Converse High School. Virgil married Betty Arthur on June 22, 1948 and she preceded him in death on October 15, 2012. Virgil retired from Dana after 30 years of employment and had previously worked at Owens-Illinois Glass Factory, where he met the love of his life. Virgil enjoyed camping, fishing, and playing Euchre and Solitaire. He was an avid sports fan, especially of basketball and boxing. In his younger years, he was very involved as a baseball coach for his children, and above all, enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Gas City.
Survivors include his sons, David (Liliya) Eckelbarger, Fort Wayne, Steven (Ying) Eckelbarger, Ocoee, FL, and Brian (Debbie) Eckelbarger, Hopkinsville, KY; daughter, Carol (Richard) Brock, Muncie; grandchildren, Corey (Lisa) Eckelbarger, Justin (Erika) Eckelbarger, Sara (Ryan) Seamann, Kyle (Deana) Eckelbarger, Adam (Jessica) Eckelbarger, Dereck Eckelbarger, Tasha Eckelbarger, Kelli (Lance) Turner, Katie (Dustin) Lee; 9 great-grandchildren; sisters, Rose Ellen Shane, Kokomo, Mary Reed, Swayzee; brother-in-law, Russell (Alice) Arthur, Lafayette; and many nieces and nephews.
