More summer passport students earn flights

A small crowd of people gathered around David Wright, a pilot from Alexandria, as he explained features of his small plane on the runway of Marion Municipal Airport on Thursday evening. Eight local students received free flights for completing a portion of the My Summer Passport, a child development program headed by Project Leadership.

After briefing the kids on the science of flight, Wright helped 5-year-old Becca Harris into the cockpit, placing a headset over her ears. Harris, a student at Kendall Elementary, had flown before and wanted to sit in the co-pilot’s spot of the four-seat plane.
